Thelma was born in Glenwood Twp. and married Leo Moen (26 Oct 1912) 27 Dec 1938 at Glenwood Church parsonage. Their children are: LaVonne, Duane and Lyle. Alton was born in Glenwood Twp. and married Rose Mary Barth 20 Jul 1950. Their children are: Wayne, Randall, Gary, Marsha and Tracy. Nels and Hilda farmed. Lovstuen, Oscar P. and Florence (Williams)(Adeline Langland) Oscar P Lovstuen Oscar P Lovstuen, son of Hans and Marie Lovstuen, was born on the Lovstuen farm in Glenwood Twp. 9 Apr 1891. He was baptized by Rev. M. Borge and confirmed by Rev. S.A. Scarvie in the spring of 1906 at the Glenwood Lutheran Church. He attended public and parochial school in the Lee School in Glenwood Twp. In the fall of 1906 he became a student at the Lutheran Normal School at Sioux Falls, SD and graduated in the spring of 1910. While there he took organ lessons and played the cornet in the L.N.S. band. He was also active in sports, playing on the basketball's first team which was a member of the Sioux Falls League. He was a member of the baseball and tennis team. After graduation Oscar went to Maddock, ND where he taught parochial school in the Viking congregation a few miles southeast of Maddock. He was organist and directed the choir and the band. During the winter and spring he taught public school. Florence (Williams) Lovstuen During the summer of 1911 Oscar taught 3 weeks in the Lee School at Glenwood and 2 months in the Canoe Ridge Church. He then received a call to take charge of the Parochial School in Stanwood, WA where he began teaching 4 Sep 1911. He also was organist at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Stanwood. In Feb of 1912, Oscar received a call to take charge of the parochial school of Glenwood Congregation and also to act as presentor and take charge of the choir. He accepted and began teaching 22 Jul 1912. He continued teaching in Glenwood until 1 Sep 1917 when he was given a leave of absence to join the Army in WWI. He left with 8 others 5 Sep in the first draft for Camp Dodge. He became a member of Hq. Co., 351 Inf. and a short time later a member of the 351st Inf. Band as a Musician 3rd Class. He was given the alto horn as his instrument. On 1 Jan 1918 he was promoted to 2nd Class Musician and 3 Aug 1918 to Band Corporal and later in France to Band Sergeant. 30 Nov 1917 he was chosen as a member of the 88th Division 43 piece band. This band consisted of musicians from the different bands at Camp Dodge. He accompanied the 88th Division football team to Camp Funston, Omaha, NE and gave several concerts under the direction of Bohumir Kryl, the world’s greatest cornet-ist at that time. From the several bands at Camp Dodge, the 351 st was chosen to tour Iowa for 2 weeks from April 1-14 in the interest of the 3rd Liberty Loan Drive. They traveled in a special pullman car during this tour and played in 46 towns. April 8 they played at Waukon and the 9th at his home town, Decorah.
